Catherine spoke about the Labour government’s plans to get to grips with the SEND education system and enable more support for children and young people with SEND, in three Westminster Hall debates this week.
Responding to questions in three Westminster Hall debates about failures in the SEND education system in Somerset, Hertfordshire & Central Bedfordshire and more generally across the country, Catherine highlighted how previous Conservative governments had left the system in chaos with families unable to get the support needed for their children to be properly supported at school.
Tackling issues in the SEND system is at the core of Labour’s mission to break down the barriers to opportunity for every child and Catherine set out how the issue would be addressed, including through effective early identification and intervention.
Following her response, Catherine commented:
“It is no secret that, following successive Conservative governments, the SEND education system just isn’t working, with children denied the support they deserve and too many families let down.
“This Labour government understands this and will work tirelessly to create progress so that every child is supported, in both mainstream and special schools, to flourish.”
